AUSTRALIAN FUTURE PRODUCER SUMMER TOUR 2009
The Queen of Loops & Princess of Funk is back, promoting her latest venture
FUTURE PRODUCER
Mihirangi is back in Australia, hitting the road with a National Summer Tour of concerts, promoting not just a new live band, but a brand new business model for indie artists that’s bound to be of major interest.
MIHIRANGI & HER NEW BAND
Having been a solo performer for four years, Mihirangi is excited to be sharing a stage once more with her new live “band” at her capital city shows.
DJ Katch from the Resin Dogs will be adding cuts, scratches & samples, while killer drummer Elvis Aljus (Kate Ceberano/The Bamboos/Renee Geyer/Ross Wilson/Deni Hines) will be supplying an even higher level of energy to Mihirangi’s already lively beat-boxing & percussion laced shows.
ABOUT MIHIRANGI
“…from the moment this quietly spoken Maori woman stepped on stage and began her performance I knew I would never forget her… her a capella vocal strength sent shivers of awe down my spine. Mihirangi held the audience's avid attention… She absolutely blew us away.” Beat Magazine
With an extraordinary talent of timing and rhythm, and an amazing vocal ability, Mihirangi creates an amazing big band sound of earth-shaking bass lines, ‘ska’ chops, jazzy riffs, soaring solos and beat boxing; all live in front of her audience with the power of her incredible vocal range and a Roland RC50 loop pedal.
Mihirangi has performed with Public Enemy, Sly & Robbie, Michael Franti, Lee Scratch Perry, Resin Dogs and Arrested Development, solidifying a growing following worldwide.
Of late, she’s been attracting big crowds at festivals; breaking CD sales records all over Canada; The Stewart Park Festival, Hillside Festival, Komasket Festival, Regina Folk Festival, Robson Valley Music Festival and Starbelly Jam to name just some.
Earlier this year, Mihirangi was also wowing audiences at WOMADelaide (drawing 5000 people; the largest onsite crowd at the event) & WOMAD NZ, and was the poster girl for The Dreaming Festival (again luring the largest attendance).
During the past four years Mihirangi’s CD sales have hit the roof, achieving sell-out sales from side of stage at nearly every festival she’s performed at. Barack Obama’s amazing 350 million dollar crowd funding campaign was the catalyst that inspired Mihirangi to look at other options for releasing future albums.
After investigating similar concepts but being disheartened by hidden costs and a lack of artistic control, she ultimately decided to create her own record label, Future Producer.
Future Producer targets fans who can become Future Producers by purchasing one or more Producer Points in her next album. As Future Producers, people are able to become personally involved in the production process, from song selection right down to artwork. Producer Points also entitle fans to receive revenue from their shares plus a signed Limited Edition copy of the album they help to create.
Mihirangi’s entrepreneurial project, which has been likened to an on-line record label co-op, has gotten support from international artists De La Soul and Arrested Development, with the latter currently helping promote the idea on YouTube. [CLICK HERE TO WATCH]
Mihirangi’s unique musical vision and the cross-cultural harmony she represents is finding a passionate audience internationally. Join that audience, and if the spirit takes you, become a Future Producer.
Of the 500 points on offer, 82 have already been snapped up. The aim by the end of this tour is to have a whole load of Future Producers on board to help Mihirangi release Somebody Shake The Tree in 2010.
“Anyone who has seen Mihirangi performing will know that, first of all, for all the political content in her lyrics, she laughs a lot… and that energy onstage is delivered with the most irresistible of beats.” Drum Media

CANADIAN SUMMER TOUR 2009
MIHIRANGI - Soulful World Roots
The Queen of Loops & The Maori Princes of Funk returns to Canada promoting her up and coming album “Somebody Shake The Tree” and launching her single “No War”
Mihirangi is returning to Canada for a summer tour of concerts and festivals promoting her next long player and venture “Somebody Shake the Tree” and launching her single “No War”.
Recently taking the New Zealand and Australian Festivals by storm Mihirangi has become an international touring favorite with her unique sound. She breaks records for onsite attendances and CD sales, she has performed with Michael Franti, Lee Scratch Perry, Public Enemy, Sly and Robbie and Blue King Brown, and is gaining a solid national and international following.
A solo loop artist creating her own band sound live in front of her audience utilizing a loop pedal, the key to Mihirangi’s music is the layering of her own vocal sounds. From the foundation of earth-shaking bass lines to intricately layered harmonies, rhythmic ‘ska’ chops, sensuous jazzy riffs and beat boxing – it’s all done with the power of her voice, an incredible vocal range and an exceptional talent of timing, rhythm and dynamic tonality. A multi-instrumentalist Mihirangi also plays percussion, guitar and Taonga Puoro (traditional Maori instruments), singing in both Maori and English her persuasive lyrics play out her concerns for indigenous, environmental and spiritual issues. This tour Mihirangi will be joined on stage with a key figure from the Australian music scene “DJ Katch from the Resin Dogs” who will be adding cuts, scratches and samples to Mihirangi’s live sound.
Promoting her up and coming album “Somebody Shake The Tree” and launching her single “No War”. “Somebody Shake the Tree” is Mihirangi’s latest self-produced fan-funded independent release. During the past four years Mihirangi’s CD sales hit the roof, achieving sell-out sales from “side of stage” (without her albums being available in stores or on-line). This inspired Mihirangi to create her own record label “Future Producer”. “Future Producer” targets her loyal fan base who have the opportunity to become involved as Producers by purchasing “Producer Points” in the album. As a “Future Producer” fans become personally involved in the production process from song selections right down to the artwork. The “Producer Points” also entitle Producers to receive revenue from their shares plus a personally signed Limited Edition of the album they helped create. “Somebody Shake The Tree” will be available both in stores and online digitally from October this year. To find out more go to www.mihirangi.com.
The single “No War” announces Mihirangi’s signature fusion of soul, roots and dance, revealing the progressive artistic evolution of her music and looping techniques. A high-energy beat-boxing dance and vocal track inspired by the global fight for resources particularly in the Antarctic, No War captures Mihirangi’s loop artistry, the power of her voice and message. The disc includes the singles video clip of the Sea Shepherd Operation Migaloo campaign in the beautiful surrounds of the Antarctic. There is an extra track, GrRrreeeeEd, from the forthcoming album along with three live tracks that offer the listener the raw energy and power of Mihirangi’s live loop performance. There is also a bonus remix of “No War” by Dj Katch.
Endearing herself to audiences around the world, an activist and dream-weaver Mihirangi has performed for an audience of 60,000 in support of social justice, non-violence, and environmental sustainability at "Power to the Peaceful" in San Francisco. She was a guest at the Sea Shepherd Conservation Societies 30th Anniversary Benefit where she performed for an audience of fellow international artist activists including The Dixie Chicks, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pierce Brosnan and Martin Sheen. This is an artist that has people sitting up, listening and taking notice for all the right reasons. Her utterly unique musical vision and the cross-cultural harmony that she herself represents will be heard.
